Mabul Island- snorkeling and diving paradise

Mabul Island, one of Malaysia's finest snorkeling sports, featuring a wide variety of marine life that suitable to explorers of all levels of experience.

There are three gateways ushering tourists to Mabul. The first is via Tawau Airport, about 45 minutes' flight from Kota Kinabalu. From Tawau, you can find a taxi to the small town (fare about RM30) and take another 1 hour's bus ride to Semporna Jetty, where a 45-minute boat ride will bring you to the snorkeling and diving paradise.

Another option is arriving at the Sandakan Airport, a 30 minute flight from Kota Kinabalu. From Sandakan, it's a 3-4 hour bus ride to Semporna Jetty, where you can get on a boat headed to Mabul Island.

If you’re a backpacker you can ride a bus from Kota Kinabalu. Buses leave daily for Semporna at 7:30am an 7:30pm from the Kota Kinabalu Inanam Bus Terminal. It takes about 7 hours to reach Semporna by bus and costs approximately RM50, includes food.

My recent visit to the island, I stayed at Scuba Jeff, an overwater backpacker, where you can snorkel from its balcony from morning to the afternoon and watch the sunset in the evening.

Ok, enough of the introduction...

Let me show you pictures that I took during my 3 days and 2 nights experience:

Due to some technical issue, I arrived to the island at night. It was tiring but once I have been served with these fresh boiled crabs and grilled fish, I did not complain more. Super duper YUMMY!

Early morning... So calm and quiet... Beautiful feeling.

You will find a few sea shell shops around the island.

Sipadan Water Village, Mabul Island- a bungalow with 5 stars accommodation and services. Not recommended to backpackers.

Another sea shell shop also selling original pearl...

A kiss to a dried fish.

Children of Mabul Island, friendly and happy go lucky.

Kidnapping two star fish for a photo. Released them to the sea after that.

Diving.

 Snokerling

Simple food but tasty. Do not expect more if you come here as backpackers.

My tiny but clean room, shared with a friend.

Sun bathing? Not a problem. Dont forget to bring your bikinis ;-)

Another story of Mabul Island... A life of sea gypsy.

Wanna get sweat? Join them for a basketball...

 Another morning scenery...

I captured from Scuba Jeff's balcony.

Seafood? Not a problem! Cheap and fresh.

An abandoned ship, after my name without the letter H.

It was my first time in Mabul Island and seriously fall in love with the place and invariably desire to come back.I definitely come back with a diving license or to do my license.

P/S: Please wear long pants while snorkeling if you can't stand the baby jellyfish.

The pics here aren't bad at all. But like you said SLR would've done justice to Mabul's awesome beauty.
