Cheap seafood in KK!

Most of my friends who are planning to come here in Kota Kinabalu will ask me where to eat fresh and cheap seafood. I said, Anjung Samudra at Kota Kinabalu City Waterfront.

Some people said the best place for fresh seafood is Gayang Seafood Restaurant (you have to travel about 30 minutes from the city centre), Port View Seafood Village (opposite Warisan Square) or even Ocean Seafood Village (next to Promenade Hotel).

Trust me, all of them are fancy restaurants, staff with uniform... bla bla... but you have to pay a bit more! I am going to introduce you with the cheapest place to eat fresh, cheap and of course DELICIOUS seafood in my place. It is not a fancy restaurant but the street stalls at Anjung Samudra.

Anjung Samudra (opposite Wisma Merdeka facing the sea) is located at Kota Kinabalu City Waterfront, the 2km long boardwalk, feature one of the longest city waterfront boardwalks in Asia and is poised to become the city’s prime tourist attraction.

My dear friend, Tuck Fai from Taipei came down to the city on the 20th July, a day before the fasting month to climb the Mount Kinabalu. I was so happy to see him after graduated in college 7 years ago (Gosh, Im that old?!) and promised him a good seafood dinner in cheap price.

Actually, the “SwordFish” is the symbol of Anjung Samudra which every tourist that visits Kota Kinabalu will take picture with it. But since I was busy during the day, I only fetch Tuck Fai at the hotel about 7.30 and he never thought of taking picture of the symbol but headed to one of my favorite stalls called "Restoran Dinda" instead. I can see he was sooo hungry!

Kota Kinabalu City Waterfront is an integrated food and entertainment centre. However, I did not bring Tuck Fai to the entertainment centre (opposite Warisan Square) because of the higher price of food and drinks. I just want Tuck Fai to enjoy good seafood!

Tuck Fai and I with two other friends who joined us ordered rice with Honey Fish, Butter Prawn and Vegetables, cost us RM60 ONLY. Very cheap for fresh seafood, where you can choose your own fish and prawn! In the fancy restaurants you are talking at about RM150 to RM200.

This area is quite special for sunset view because of the boardwalk built using eco-friendly materials rising above the sea on stilts. If you are coming down to Kota Kinabalu, come early for the sunset and after that you can enjoy your dinner.

Tuck Fai should be climbing the mountain today, hoping he will reach the summit. If possible, I want to bring him to the other eating spot in town, Tanjung Aru Beach!

Anjung Samudera agak busy sebab tempat tu kawasan streetfood. Tak payah booking, datang je semua warung-warung je pun... Sunset di KK start sekitar 6pm.

Hi LM, I am going to bring my french friend and foster family to visit Sabah this July. They love seafood very much, Anjung samudera tu ada jual ikan yang size basar2 ka steamed or grilled? Lobster mahal ka? Some friends told me, I should bring them to the fish market, near Le Meridien because at night ada pasar malam. But I think hygiene is the big issue. So kalau kau ada idea, tulung kungsi2 ok. ^^

hello, tanak wagu...
anjung samudera ada ikan besar (tapi depending on their stock juga sebab cepat habis coz street food lebih murah). anjung samudra (opposite cocoon lama) is cleaner compared to night market opposite le meridien sebab tidak berapa ramai penjual, but if hygine is ur issue, i suggest u check anjung samudra first (sometime ada lobster, kadang-kadang tiada) kalau tidak sesuai u can always go to gayang seafood restaurant (sulaman road heading to tuaran). pricing there is reasonable. paling ngam ask the price before you order.

Hi, Watie...
Memang Anjung Samudra ni lain dari yang Pasar Filipin tapi konsep agak sama tapi di sini tidak sesak sangat berbanding Pasar Filipin yang sangat ramai orang. Telampau rimas kalau nda selesa makan sebab besempit-sempit.
