Tamu Besar of Kota Belud

Kota Belud is my second home now as my husband was born at the Cowboy district. So this year I volunteer offered myself to cover the Tamu Besar (Sunday Market) event held at Kota Belud town recently.

I was asked by my boss to do a soft news on the event and of course, process the speech of Member of the Parliament (boring part. blwek!)

I have been waiting for the annual event since May after failing to go for Lepa-Lepa Festival at Semporna. Tamu Besar is one of the most popular festivals in Sabah. It is the biggest traditional open-air market held in the State.

The highlights were the Queen Sarimpak and Tanjak Worrier Competition, Betitik (traditional Bajau music) Competition and also local product exhibition. Another not to miss event is the popular Bajau Horsemen Performance. Enjoy fascinating lineups of activities such as, buffalo parade, Horsemen Tug of War and also the Buffalo race with Sack of Paddy during this festival.

My French teacher, Veronique Chapeland actually invited me to go for the event from Kota Kinabalu, together with the other members of KK French'ip but I decided to go with my husband because I was planning to visit my mother-in-law before heading to the event which was scheduled to start around 10am.
 Veronique and I

We drove all the way from Kota Kinabalu early morning about 7am and arrived at 8am. We had breakfast at in-law's and after that my husband drop me at the Tamu besar. I met Veronqiue with her husband and daughter, Marie.

It was fun interviewing the exhibitors and Queen Sarimpak winner, and it was also exicitng looking at various local products, so colorful and the food looks sooo exotic!

 Loca crafts

 Local beads

I will be coming back for next year's event to ensure I can capture all the highlights. I should try riding the horse, but hubby said its dangerous without proper practice.
